Russula ochroleucoides Kauffman.
Cap 6-12cm across, convex, soon flattened; straw yellow to ochraceous, dull ochre at center; dry, pulverulent. Gills close, narrow; white. Stem 40-60 x 15-20mm, equal, rigid; subpruinose, white. Flesh hard; white. Odor faint, pleasant. Taste slowly bitter, unpleasant. Spores ovoid, 8.5-10 x 7-8ľ; warts 0.4 -0.8ľ, high, nearly complete reticulum. Deposit white (A). Habitat under mixed deciduous trees. Common. Found widely in eastern North America. Season June-October. Edible. (Never eat any mushroom until you are certain it is edible as many are poisonous and some are deadly poisonous.) Comment Similar to Russula flavida, but the latter has brighter colors (stem is also yellow) and darker spores.
